Current projects

From 12 July through 25 August, 2012, IZOLYATSIA will hold its third annual artists-in-residence program. We are now accepting proposals from artists wanting to explore the notion of moving image via the prism of a determined research theme. Artists working in all media (including performance and text) are welcome to apply. Although moving image is the starting point, final projects do not need to conform to moving-image as a form of video-art. The residency is both process- and outcome- oriented.  Six artists-in-residence will work closely with the curators – Agnieszka Pindera and Victoria Ivanova – on their individual and/or collective projects and the residency will culminate in an exhibition on the IZOLYATSIA territory (in 2013).

On 03.06.12 IZOLYATSIA will open Partly Cloudy - the final stage of the artists-in-residence program held in the summer of 2011 under guidance of Boris Mikhailov. Eight new photographic series created during the residents' stay in Donetsk will be presented around various venues of the IZOLYATSIA territory.

Creative Village is a ‘city’ within a city. Currently there are no established models of the overall principle, that can be applicable to a place, without a thorough study of the surrounding environment, but there are many existing initiatives around the globe, where certain principles can be extracted to create a site specific creative village.

IZOLYATSIA invites everyone to participate in the creation of a new guidebook to the city. What is typical in Donetsk? What people constantly see in front of their noses? What they can find on the streets? Project participants are searching for traces and signs of meaningful human activity in the city. Learn more about the project: http://www.izolyatsia.org/guide/

IZOLYATSIA's educational program is composed of lectures, discussions and master-classes dedicated to contemporary art and culture, political thought, architecture, design, as well as special events relevant to the ongoing expositions. The first pilot lectures on contemporary art were launched in February 2011.

Art Residency Program is a new project launched by IZOLYATSIA. The aim of the project is to attract the attention of international artists to Donetsk and the region as a space with a great potential for cultural development. The project offers artists to work on a proposed curatorial theme, and by immersing themselves within an unfamiliar environment, to create works, which are a reflection of their understanding of Donetsk as a social and cultural phenomenon.

ZvukoIzolyatsia is an experimental site-specific audio-visual project, which unites acoustics, video-art and dramaturgy, in the creation of a symphony inspired by the sounds, colours and shapes of a former warehouse.

On the 20th of January 2011, Odessa born artist Apl315 >> www.apl315.info >> completed an innovational graffiti art project on the territory of IZOLYATSIA. Armed with spay-paint and supported by a rope tied around his waist, Apl315 tattooed a gigantic multi-coloured oval rainbow on the slope of the snow-covered terrikon with a gigantic multi-coloured oval rainbow.

In the summer of 2010, IZOLYATSIA held its first art residency project to mark the creation of the platform for cultural initiatives. We invited five young artists (David Chichkan, Yuri Pikul, APL315, Gamlet and Volodymyr Kuznetsov) from different regions of Ukraine to work within one of the former plant warehouses under the curatorial guidance of Adam Nankervis. The results of their dialogue with the space and the context of the city were presented at the exhibition IZOLYATSIA 2.0

To mark IZOLYATSIA's creation, the foundation convened an international conference, Cultural Conversion: A New Life of the Industrial Past, on the 25th of September. IZOLYATSIA invited experts on cultural projects aimed at the revival of former industrial zones to share their experiences.
