Russian illegal prison on IZOLYATSIA premises has been operational for 10 years.

Artist and anthropologist Maria Chiara Calvani in residence at IZOLYATSIA

On July 2 – August 3, 2018, Rome-based artist and anthropologist Maria Chiara Calvani is a new resident at IZOLYATSIA.

Maria Chiara Calvani graduated from the Sapienza University of Rome, architecture department. Her artistic research focuses particularly on folk elements (legends, stories, folk poems, customs, arts and craft). She explores the relation between different cultures, memories and experiences. Maria is interested in the group dynamics and diverse forms of rituals. She works with different media, among which installation, video and site-specific performance and participative practices involving local communities.

During the residency, Maria will work on the study of Ukrainian traditions (including contemporary ones). On July 30, at 7 PM, Maria will give an artist talk and present an exhibition at the IZONE Creative Community, vul. Naberezhno-Luhova 8.
