Presentation of the online residency Grounding. Invasion results

On 20 December, at 19:00, IZOLYATSIA Foundation invites you to the presentation of the Grounding online residency programme results. Invasion. During the event, the programme's residents will discuss their practices and artistic research conducted during the residency.

During the programme, artists Volt Agapeyev, Dasha Podoltseva, Daria Dantseva and Oleksandr Sirous explored the impact of Russian aggression and full-scale war on the state of Ukrainian landscapes and the environment. Together with their mentors environmentalists, humanitarians and artists they searched for a voice for their artistic expressions.

In their projects, the residents look at Ukrainian landscapes and search for an adequate role, a place for our decisions and actions. They talk about the incredible vitality of nature and are optimistic about our possible harmonious coexistence and recovery with balanced decisions. The projects tell the narrative of the subjectivity of a modern person, not from the perspective of an invader or a user but from the perspective of a guardian.

Modelling, game simulation, participatory practices, three-dimensional digital environments and visual media make it possible to immerse the viewer in the topic and make them an accomplice in anti-vandalism intervention.

  • Daria Dantseva, in her project Where's My Steppe?, reflects on identity and decolonisation through the search for the almost destroyed natural steppe of the Dnipro region;
  • Volt Agapeyev, in his project Feralli, considers the development of independent ecosystems and the reclamation of war zones;
  • Dasha Podoltseva, in her project Lost Scapes: The Journey of the Beach, explores the beach as a recreational area and a space of social contract, the disappearance and formation of beaches as a result of the Russian invasion;
  • Oleksandr Sirous, in his project Steppe Deterritorialisation, focuses on creating a game simulation to explore the properties of the steppe landscape.
