Russian illegal prison on IZOLYATSIA premises has been operational for 10 years.

The first two lectures were held on the 19th and 20th of February. The aim of the lectures was to provide a foundational background on the theory and practice of contemporary art. They were presented by art critic and curator Victoria Burlaka, and artist Pavel Makov in Donetsk Regional Museum of Fine Art.

Contemporary art is a dynamic process, which reacts vividly to all new tendencies and changes in society. Due to its versatility and ambiguous development, this phenomenon is a steady source of debates and discrepancies. A plethora of trends, genres, artists, and works does not allow to speak of any categorical evaluations of contemporary art. Victoria Burlaka lead a discussion on this phenomenon and told about its formation, the emergence of the term “contemporary art” itself, its meaning and about the artists, whose names are currently closely associated with this notion. Pavel Makov continued the conversation in an interactive “question – reply” form.
